Police in Lilongwe have commended the cordial relationship between communities in Traditional Authority Kalumba and officers from Chitsime Police Unit in the fight against crime.

Speaking on Monday when community leaders and police officers met to celebrate their 2022 achievements, Chitsime Police Unit officer-in-charge Mable Msefula said collaboration was key to fighting crime.

She acknowledged the support from traditional leaders, community members, businesspersons and other stakeholders in the area.

Said Msefula: “We do not feel isolated because of the assistance you give us.

“Your financial, material and moral support as well as information on criminal activities helped us keep law and order in the area.”

Speaking on behalf of T/A Kalumba, Ida Chisaka commended the police officers for their dedication and professionalism.

She said community members tip off the officers because they have confidence in them.

Said Chisaka: “The cordial relationship that exists between the law enforcers and community members has improved security in the area.

“Despite your mobility challenges, you are always there when we need your assistance. We pledge to continue creating an environment suitable for your work.”

Chitsime Ward councillor Amos Mbewe said security was important because development cannot be achieved in a lawless environment.

“Investors cannot come in an area without security,” he said.

During the function, Msefula awarded the best three performing community policing forums for their efforts in helping to end gender-based violence, child marriages, mob justice and providing tip-offs on criminal activities.
